Just Pursuits

ethics and economics.

“Our greatest happiness does not depend on the condition of life in which chance has placed us, but is always the result of a good conscience, good health, occupation, and freedom in all just pursuits.” -Thomas Jefferson

Just another curious individual, looking to make sense out of the basic questions of value, justice, and life in society. I have only limited formal education in the fields of philosophy and economics. In one sense, this puts me at a disadvantage. In another, it is an advantage: since I’m not ‘in the box,’ I don’t have to worry about staying inside of it. I have a keen eye for internal contradiction and unintended consequence, and an appreciation for the power of large scale incentives-based emergent order (i.e. “the invisible hand”).

I think that truth, once discovered, can be made simple and understandable to all. This is my pursuit of that simple, elegant truth.

But, hey, I could be wrong.
